Food help for newcomers and refugees in Ottawa

How newcomers, refugees and refugee claimants can get food in Ottawa, and where to get help in your language.

Food banks and meal programs in Ottawa serve newcomers, refugees and refugee claimants. You do not need citizenship or permanent residence to use them. Community food banks ask for ID and proof of address; meal programs usually do not ask for anything.

Help in your language

  • Call 2-1-1 for help finding food in more than 150 languages, 24 hours a day.
  • OCISO (Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization) offers settlement help in more than 50 languages. Walk-in Monday to Thursday at 959 Wellington Street West, or call 613-725-0202.
  • CCI Ottawa (Catholic Centre for Immigrants), 219 Argyle Avenue, helps permanent residents, refugees and refugee claimants living in Ottawa with housing, jobs and language.

Settlement agencies can also help you apply for the Canada Child Benefit and other money that helps with food.
